Mercury Retrograde in Libra - Where is the Truth? - Sept 24 - Oct 15, 2008

By Janet Moon

Mercury is a fast little planet, and he obits the Sun every 88 days. Because the earth is not the center of the solar system, Mercury will often appear to be moving backwards against the Universe -- Mercury Retrograde. Mercury's retrogrades last about 3 weeks and happen about 3 or 4 times a year. All the planets of the zodiac, except the Sun and the Moon, turn retrograde from our perspective. We usually give Mercury more emphasis because of his close proximity to us, and because of his rapid orbit.

When Mercury is retrograde, often issues from our past come back for us to deal with. Many of my single clients tell me of ex lovers coming out of the woodwork during Mercury's retrograde. Often things begun during a Mercury retrograde don't work out. Its not a good time to change jobs or to sign any long term commitments. I recommend that my clients looking for work during a Mercury retrograde consider temporary positions.

There are positives that also come with Mercury's retrograde including reuniting with a lost love. Its also a great time for ghost hunting and spirit channeling. The veil between here and the other side becomes thin when Mercury is in retrograde. Got any old projects "sitting on the back burner?" Mercury rules the mind, so anything from our past will become more clear. It is also a good time to go back over records and put things in order.

Mercury's present retrograde will be traversing the sign of Libra. Libra is not a sign known to always tell the truth. Libra is ruled by Venus, and beauty, relationships, and diplomacy are far more important to a Libra than the absolute, exact truth. A Libra will lie to you, if they feel that it is more polite than telling the truth. Ask a Libra, "How do I look in this dress?" and you may not get an honest answer. And, with very important upcoming elections here in the US, we Americans need to keep a skeptical outlook when we judge the candidates during this time.

The very first few days of this Mercury retrograde will probably be the most difficult with Mercury changing directions (retrograde station) while at an exact conjunction with Mars. Mars is the warrior, and he rules our tempers and our sex drives. Mercury rules transportation, so we usually expect travel problems when Mercury is at retrograde station, but add Mars to the mix and the potential for "road rage" increases exponentially. With all this happening in Libra the sign of partnerships, there could also be misunderstandings with loved ones and coworkers. So, be careful from September 23rd through the 25th.

There will be no planets interacting with Mercury when he hits his direct station (the degree where he changes from retrograde back to forward motion), so we may just find ourselves breathing a sigh of relief on October 15th. And, by October 17th, it will be business as usual.

Mercury will transit this retrograde from 23 degrees to 7 degrees Libra. So, now its time to check your natal charts. If you have any planets or power points between 5 and 25 degrees in Cancer or Capricorn, there may be some relationship problems at work and home. If you have any planets between 6 and 25 degrees in Aries, you may feel like you're working hard and accomplishing little. And, if you have planets in the same degrees in Libra, you may make some decisions you will regret. Think before you act, and postpone any big decisions until Mercury's retrograde is over. Gemini and Aquarius at the same degrees may find something they lost. The natal planet or power point being aspected will determine what area of your life will be affected. Also, check to see which of your houses Mercury will cover to tell more about how Mercury's retrograde will affect your life.
