How Accurate Are Face Readings?

By Keith Ward

Face reading is the practice of determining another's personality and characteristics from looking at the features of their face. The reader takes into account the shape of the face, the hairline, the eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks, ears, the philtrum (that little dip between your nose and your mouth), eyebrows, chin and anything else that appears on the face. Different shapes and sizes will have different meanings, as will features like wide eyes, narrowed eyes, prominent philtrum, etc.

An example of a face reading may be that the reader first takes into account the shape of a person's face.

An oblong face belongs to someone who is practical, deliberate and methodical... the salt of the earth. This shape is often seen in people with Earth signs like Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.

Round faces, on the other hand, typify those people who tend to be more emotional and are associated with water signs like Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio.

Square faces are usually seen on aggressive, ambitious and dominating personalities like Leo, Aries and Sagittarians.

Triangular faces are more rational, restless and active. They may be associated with air signs like Libra, Gemini and Aquarius.

Next, the reader will observe your hair, forehead, eyes, eyebrows, nose, philtrum, mouth, chin, ears and cheeks. For example, fine hair may indicate a delicate constitution and a wide forehead may show practicality and cleverness. Eyes that sit unevenly may suggest a person who looks at things differently and may be able to offer you new insights. Further information can be gleaned by the colour of a person's eyes, how far apart they are and how the iris sits within the white of the eye.

Eyebrows tell you about reputation, temperament and fame. The line, shape and size of the nose can tell you a lot about a person. You can learn of their social skills, energy levels and personality from the nose. The philtrum, located just beneath the nose and above the centre of the mouth suggests health or weakness. The mouth speaks volumes. The lips and how they are held reveal much about the emotional state of the person's character. For example, narrow lips may indicate someone who is unemotional or who prefers a more internalised life than one that is outwardly expressive.

The chin relates to stamina and endurance. It can also indicate independence of spirit or a weak-willed personality. The ears are judged according to their placement, size, how much or little they protrude from the side of the head and the size of the lobes. The cheeks play a part in status and position. They can also give clues to your internal health, for example, cheeks that are very red may indicate a problem with the lungs.

Face reading takes some practice to master, but it is thought to provide 85 - 95% accuracy when reading someone you've just met. Variations can occur due to a person not knowing themselves very well, or if they have actively tried to change something about themselves.

During a reading, the reader studies the face and determines the emotional, physical and intellectual propensities of the person being studied. This skill is helpful when you are seeking people who meet specific needs, like honesty, integrity, openness and so on.
